John Clapham

Who are you ?
I’m still finding out!  I’m definitely someone who likes to help others and believes that we can make our workspaces both more productive and enjoyable to work in.  I’m a reformed conference addict, father, hiker and lego fan.
What do you do for a living ?
I’m a coach, predominantly working with software teams and their leadership to improve delivery.  I help  uncover opportunities for improvement and change, and assist with experimentation and implementation.
What do you want to speak about at FlowCon ?
I have a mix of things I’m enthusiastic about disguised under one topic, including physiological safety, evolution, how little things matter, how you make a big difference without permission and of course, continuous delivery.
What will make you say “waouh” at the end of the conference ?
Authentic stories with practical elegant approaches, and anyone who gives a talk in a second language
What will make you think that attendees have learnt a lot during your session ?
Knowing that they can make a difference, and understand they don’t need a big transformation plan to do so.  That successful building of a continuous delivery capability requires careful thought to balance flow across many functions.  I hope they leave thoughtful and have learned at least one thing they didn’t expect to.
What is your favorite word ?
What is the sound, the noise that you love  ?
The sound of light rain on tent canvas
What is the plant, tree or animal which you would love to be reincarnated into ?
Tricky, either something that gets to roam freely around the hills like a deer, or something really small to experience a totally different scale, like a beetle.  An Oak tree would be interesting because of the changes seen during it’s long life.
What is the question you would have liked us to ask ?
There might be a question which takes advantage of having the attention of a range of people who are at the leading edge.  How about –
– What new method or idea really excites you?  By not explicitly say agile or lean you might some interesting non-work answers too!
– We often use our talents to help commercial organisations, how can we do more for good causes and communities?
